Structured activity visits, primarily focused at school groups, provide a very structured and highly organised day. Visits are run and staffed by Sue and ‘Farmer’ Chris Heseltine and our experienced Hesketh team.
A day visit usually starts at 10.30am and all activities are completed by around 2pm.
Children are divided into groups of approximately 20. Each group participates in a range of activities which take approximately 30 minutes each.
The day comprises of the following activities:
Weighing, mixing, and preparing either the lamb or calf milk and then feeding them.
Having a tractor ride with Farmer Chris, including question and answer session.
Taking a paddock walk – discussing trees, animal homes, animals in the paddock.
Going egg collecting – counting them, opening an egg, and looking at the contents, followed by handling baby chicks.
Looking at the pigs and piglets.
Guinea pig cuddling.
A free time play session.
We break for lunch at 12 noon and then commence again at approximately 12.45pm, depending on the individual group’s departure time. We always ask that you take all picnic rubbish back to school with you please.
The price is £10.50 + VAT per child with one adult admitted free with every 5 children, additional adults are charged at £8.00 + VAT each.
Payment is to be made prior to the visit.
Unstructured visits
We are also pleased to offer unstructured visits where the activities listed above are available but in a less formal/structured manner. These are especially recommended for nurseries and playgroups (children under school age).
Unstructured visits are priced at £9.50 + VAT per child (INCLUDING the tractor ride), with one adult admitted free with every 3 children, additional adults are charged at £9.50 + VAT each.
Or £8.00 + VAT per child (EXCLUDING the tractor ride), with one adult admitted free with every 3 children, additional adults are charged at £8.00 + VAT each.
Payment is to be made prior to the visit.
Health & Safety
As with a visit to anywhere away from your usual environment, a visit to a farm involves certain risks. We always endeavour to minimise these risks so that your visit can be as enjoyable and informative as possible, but would ask that you make yourself fully aware of the risks and how to reduce them.
To assist you with this, we have prepared a full risk assessment for a visit to Hesketh that is available for download.
Further information is available by downloading the Health Protection Agency’s leaflet, Avoiding infection on farm visits:
advice for the public, or on their website at www.hpa.org.uk.
