To make it as easy as possible for you to plan your visit we thought it would be useful to include the questions and answers on the website. If your answer isn’t included here or elsewhere on the website, don’t hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help.

Do you accept credit and debit cards?

We do. All cards apart from American Express are accepted at the Farm Park entrance and for refreshments and shop purchases but we are only able to accept cash for tractor and trailer rides.

Do you have ATM machines?

No we don’t have an ATM machine on the farm.

What food and drink is on offer?

We serve light refreshments such as home-made sandwiches, sausage rolls, toasted teacakes, biscuits, cakes, and hot & cold drinks. Please note that no hot meals are served.

Can I bring a picnic?

Yes of course. Outside is a perfect setting to enjoy your picnic and inside there are many picnic tables to take cover from the sun or rain. However, we do request that you take picnic rubbish home with you.

What happens if it rains?

Even if the weather isn’t great, there’s still loads of fun to be had at Hesketh Farm Park. We have a huge amount of undercover area which includes our animal handling and feeding area, our large sandpit, pedal tractors for under 3’s and over 3’s, straw maze, slide and climbing equipment.
Come rain or shine, whatever the weather, there’s always lots to see and do.

Can I drop my children off and pick them up
later?

Sorry, no: all children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Is Hesketh Farm Park wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the majority of the Farm Park is accessible for all, with wide flat areas undercover in our two barns and many accessible areas outside. There is disabled parking right outside the entrance and a disabled toilet too. In addition, our tractor and trailer ride is accessible to wheelchairs.

Is there anything I need to know if I am
pregnant?

Pregnant women should avoid contact with newborn lambs and goat kids, and like all other visitors, ensure that they wash their hands frequently with warm water and antibacterial soap. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff.

Are there places to wash our hands?

At Hesketh Farm Park we’ve got plenty of hand wash stations, each with warm water, antibacterial soap, and hand towel. Around the Farm you will find hand washing facilities available near each animal contact area, and plenty of basins by the toilets too. Please supervise the washing of your children’s hands immediately after leaving an animal contact area, before eating and drinking and after touching footwear.
Please note that sanitising hand gels do not provide adequate protection alone. They are not a substitute for thorough hand washing but can be of value if used as an additional measure.

Health & safety at Hesketh: avoiding infection

We really hope your visit to Hesketh Farm Park is enjoyable and you love meeting and interacting with our animals. However, contact with any animals carries a risk of infection, so we ask that you follow our health & safety guidelines to reduce the risk of ill health. Farm animals carry a number of infections that can be harmful to people, for example, E.Coli and Cryptosporidium – many animals carry these infections even when they appear clean and healthy. The bacteria will be in the animal’s droppings and may be on the animal’s body, or on fences and surfaces in and around the Farm. Touching animals, fences and other surfaces can thus lead to infection, as you may pick up these bacteria and accidentally pass them to your mouth. It only takes a small number of the bacteria to cause infection.

The best and simplest way to reduce the risk of infection is to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water immediately after you have had contact with animals.
Hand gels or wipes are not a substitute for washing your hands with running water.

Hand gels or wipes are not a substitute for washing your hands with running water.

Do not:

  • Put hands on faces or fingers in mouths whilst petting animals or walking round the farm.
  • Kiss farm animals nor allow children to put their faces close to animals.
  • Eat or drink while touching animals or walking round the farm only in the designated eating areas.
  • Eat anything that has fallen on the floor.
  • Use gels or wipes instead of washing hands with soap and water. Gels and wipes do not remove E.Coli, Cryptosporidium or dirt.

Do:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after you have touched animals, fences or other surfaces in animal areas.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before eating and drinking.
  • Remove and clean boots or shoes that might have become soiled and clean pushchair wheels. Then wash you hands thoroughly with soap and water
  • Supervise children closely to ensure that they wash their hands.

We’ve got plenty of hand wash stations, each with warm water, antibacterial soap, and hand towel. Around the Farm you will find hand washing facilities available near each animal contact area, and plenty of basins by the toilets too. Please do use these as we want you to remember Hesketh for a fantastic visit, not for having a horrible infection after you get home.

Further information is available by downloading the Health Protection Agency’s leaflet, Avoiding infection on farm visits: advice for the public, or on their website at www.hpa.org.uk.

Fantastic

May 2023

What a marvellous place! I was just blown away. Lovely friendly staff who obviously adore their work here looking after all these adorable animals. The standard of care and attention to the lambs, calves, piglets, chicks, guinea pigs and their various mothers is superb. I just can’t praise it enough!

The best children's attraction

April 2023

Despite it being a cold wet day we had a fantastic time at Hesketh Farm with our 4 year old and one year old grandchildren. It is rare, if not unique, to visit a children's attraction and feel that it was good value for money but Hesketh Farm is excellent value for money.
